ABC is the only national association devoted exclusively to the merit shop philosophy, which aims to provide the best management techniques, the finest craftsmanship, and the most competitive bidding and pricing strategies in the industry, regardless of labor affiliation.

The Heart of America Chapter is one of 79 chapters across the country working toward advancing the construction industry. The chapter hosts a variety of programs and services aimed at benefiting its members.

  • The Heart of America Chapter is committed to developing a safe workplace and high-performance workforce through quality education and training. We host a range of activities such as safety lunches, seminars and meetings (view calendar).
  • Our apprenticeship classes are based on a modular curriculum and are taught in programs from three to five years in length. All classes are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and the Veterans Administration.
  • Business development activities such as monthly membership meetings, our annual "Excellence in Construction" awards and our Accredited Quality Contractor program highlight the best companies in the industry.
  • Our legislative and government affairs lobbyists and staff work non-stop to help protect your rights on the local, state and national levels.

Categories of Membership:

Contractor:  Any person, firm or corporation engaged in the construction industry as a general contractor, construction management firm or subcontractor. Contractor members provide service in the field.

Supplier:  Any person, firm or corporation engaged in the construction industry by providing equipment, supplies or products directly to a contractor. Supplier members do not perform any service in the field.

Associate:  Any person, firm or corporation engaged in a business or profession allied with or related to the construction industry but not performing any service in the field, i.e., but not limited to, architects, attorneys, bonding companies, engineers, real estate brokers, or title companies.
