Electrical Apprenticeship Training Program

The ABC Heart of America Chapter’s electrical program is accredited with The National Center for Construction Education and Research. The standardized curriculum is nationally recognized. The program is approved by the United States Department of Labor.

The electrical apprenticeship is a four - year program. Classes meet for a total of 150 hours each year. Hands - on training and the NEC is included in all levels of the program.

Upon completion of the four - year electrical program, apprentices earn 30 credits to apply toward an Associates degree in Applied Science.

Classes meet Monday / Wednesday or Tuesday / Thursday from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Business & Technology College (click for directions)

Electrical I

Electrical safety, technical math, electrical theory, electrical test equipment, introduction to the NEC, electrical wiring techniques, anchors, supports, conduit bending and electrical print reading.

Electrical II

Applied trigonometry, electrical power, fundamentals of alternating current, power distribution, conductor installations, conductor terminations & splices, grounding and fundamentals of electrical installations.

Electrical III

Motors; theory & applications, electrical motors and motor controls, motor maintenance, motor calculations, electrical distribution equipment and hazardous locations.

Electrical IV

Basic electronic theory, HVAC controls, load calculations, specialty electrical equipment, transformers, welding machines, lighting systems, specialty lighting, standby & emergency systems, high voltage terminations & splicing, NEC review and journeyman prep.
